MTV Releases Trailer for ‘Real Friends of WeHo’ — And Twitter Declares a “National Crisis”

Move over, Housewives, there’s a new group in town. MTV has officially released its trailer for its upcoming reality series, The Real Friends of WeHo. Aside from being a clear bum off Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise, this show is set to follow six of Hollywood’s “most influential and successful LGBTQ+ celebrities, personalities and entrepreneurs,” per Deadline.

The trailer gives a first glimpse at the new slate of reality stars: celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Todrick Hall, Surviving Compton actor Curtis Hamilton, Buttah Skincare CEO Dorión Renaud, business owner Jaymes Vaughan and social media influencer Joey Zauzig.

Hall, who previously starred on Celebrity Big Brother and auditioned for American Idol, is sure to bring the drama to the small screen — and he knows it. Hall even teased some of his own controversies in today’s trailer, but only mentioned them briefly. The choreographer was previously accused of not paying his employees, and was accused of sexual misconduct.

“I think the word you’re looking for is ‘scandals,’” he says in the trailer. “Yeah, I’ve been involved in a few of those. I’m just gonna let people know my truth.”

Twitter has been buzzing since the trailer dropped, leaving many less than impressed with MTV’s latest venture and not afraid to share it.

“I’ve watched A LOT of reality tv to know that this new ‘Real Friends of WeHo’ is not gonna be good… I NEED AUTHENTIC FRIENDSHIPS WITH NON FAMOUS GAYS,” one wrote.

Another said, “The Real Friends of WeHo feels like they’re gentrifying something that’s already been gentrified.”

A third person added, “I’ve been distracted from one national crisis, the House Speaker vote, by another national crisis, ‘The Real Friends of WeHo.’”

Another chimed in to add, “Real friends of weho looks/sounds like a bad web-only series from 2011 🫣”

Actor Chris Salvatore even took to the platform to seemingly shade the series, writing, “Last year, 3 gays from a certain reality show refused to film with me for having an [Only Fans] so I was fired by production after filming for only a week,” he spilled. “That’s about all I can say…for now 🫢”

Under the comments section, another user replied, “As if I needed another reason not to watch MTV’s Real Friends of WeHo.”

If anything is clear, it’s that there’s seems to be tons of drama already — and not all of it is happening onscreen.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when The Real Friends of WeHo premieres on Friday, Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. You can watch the full trailer above.
